Remembering Your True Self

The Person You Became to Survive Is Not Who You Are

You did everything right. So why does your own life feel like a room you're standing outside of? The job came. The house came. Nobody who depends on you has been let down. And when the house goes quiet and the roles come off — the provider, the strong one, the one everybody calls — what's left isn't peace. It's a low pressure behind the sternum. So you reach for something. The scroll. The drink. The prayer said too fast. Here's what's actually happening. Rameen Zereh learned a law at twelve: stay watchful, or the people you love will be taken. That law made him capable. It built a business. Thirty years later, in a California house with no soldiers anywhere, it was still running — and costing him his marriage. You have a law like that. Yours was written in a quieter house. It got you here. It cannot take you further. Nothing has gone wrong with you. You're being audited by reality. The claim, plainly: a great deal of what you call your life is a performance you forgot was a performance. It has your name on the mail. But is it you, or conditioning doing a good impression of your voice? What you'll walk away with: a model of the mind you can't unsee — the film, the beam, the screen, and the light that was watching all along. Your inner narrator, named. Your fear-law, on the table. And the Sacred Pause — notice, name, ask who is aware — one breath, small enough to survive the moment it's needed in. What this is not: no robes, no retreat, no lineage, no license. Rameen tells you what he believes and that he can't prove it. Drop the metaphysics and every practice still works. It won't stop your thoughts or rearrange your circumstances. You'll still build the business and pack the lunches. You'll just stop needing them to tell you what you are. Smaller promise. Far more reliable. You don't have to believe any of it. You have to try it once.

RAMEEN ZEREH

Author, Associate Editor

Rameen Zereh was born in Afghanistan and was twelve when the Soviet occupation of Kabul forced his family to flee. Sponsored by an American family, they began again as refugees in Marysville, California. When his father died in 1993, Rameen became the provider for a household of six at twenty years old. He set his education aside and never returned to finish college. He took over his father's ten-by-ten flea-market stall and built from there, growing a multi-location business over fifteen years before losing it — first to his own compulsion to control, then to a partner he had mentored and made an equal. He is the author of Unconditional Happiness and Wake Up! Gnosis. He is not a guru and does not claim to be finished. He lives in Dublin, California, with his wife, Gitti, and is the father of Raayeen 26 years old and Shawn 25 years old..
