Ahmad Assem
Author
Ahmed Assem is a writer and practitioner working in the fields of community development, social innovation, and building enabling ecosystems for sustainable development.
He began his studies in medicine before turning toward public policy and management, earning two master’s degrees from the National University of Singapore and Columbia University in New York.
His experience has spanned the health, education, consulting, community development, and social entrepreneurship sectors, with a particular focus on Africa and the Arab world.
Throughout this journey, his experiences with social organizations, universities, entrepreneurs, and local communities led him to a fundamental question: How can a person achieve success in life without allowing that success to become disconnected from their community and from the deeper purpose of their existence?
This question became the starting point for his vision of a purposeful life—a vision grounded in the belief that a person should not measure success solely by what they possess or achieve for themselves, but by their ability to use the knowledge, abilities, resources, relationships, and opportunities they have been given to create an impact that extends beyond themselves.
Ahmed believes that sustainable change does not begin only with reforming institutions or creating opportunities. It begins by reorienting the individual’s inner compass, and then building the systems that enable people to turn their convictions into action, their actions into impact, and individual impact into collective change.
Through initiatives and organizations he is developing across Africa and the Arab region, he seeks to build bridges between people, knowledge, opportunities, capital, and communities—with the aim of making positive change more sustainable, scalable, and impactful.
The book A Philosophy of a Purposeful Life is an extension of this journey: an attempt to offer a framework that helps people rediscover the meaning of success and move from the question, “What do I want to achieve?” to a deeper question:
“What do I want to live for, and what do I want my existence to leave behind in this world?”
I can also create a compelling author-profile image that visually captures Ahmed’s journey and philosophy.
