Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Arthanubhavam

Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam Arthanubhavam is a 596-page treasure that illuminates the thousand divine names of Lord Vishnu with clarity, devotion, and depth. This work is inspired by the Vishnu Sahasranama Bhashyam of the author’s great-grandfather, Basha Bharatha Dhuranthara Maha Mahopadyaya Sri M.V. Ramanujachariar, and continues his legacy with reverence. What makes this commentary unique is its integration of two great interpretative traditions—Sri Parasara Bhattar’s Bhagavad Guna Darppanam, cherished in the Sri Vaishnava sampradaya, and Sri Adi Sankara’s Bhashyam. Together, they offer readers a balanced vision that is both philosophically profound and devotionally inspiring. Each divine name is explained with simplicity and depth, supported by references from the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Nalayira Divya Prabandham, Bhagavatam, Mahabharata, and other Puranas. Original verses are presented in Sanskrit and Tamil, along with transliterations and explanations in lucid English, making this a rare tri-lingual resource for chanting, study, and contemplation. The book emphasizes that chanting alone is uplifting, but chanting with understanding brings atma-trupti (inner fulfillment) and true bhakti-bhavam (devotion). To assist seekers, an alphabetical glossary of all one thousand names is included for easy reference. Aimed at both younger and older generations, especially those living outside and within Bharat, this commentary makes the timeless wisdom of the Sahasranama accessible to a global audience. Guided by the shastric principle “Eka svadhu na bhunjita”—that noble treasures must be shared—this work is an offering to all devotees and seekers who wish to immerse themselves in the spiritual and cultural richness of Lord Vishnu’s thousand names.

By the boundless grace of Sriman Narayana, Dr. Jayanthi Parthasarathy was born into a lineage deeply rooted in the Sri Vaishnava sampradaya. Along with her husband, Sri Parthasarathy Srinivasan, she grew up reciting the Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam daily, cherishing both the Sri Mahabharata and Srimad Ramayana. Her great-grandfather, Maha Mahopadyaya Sri M.V. Ramanujachariar, was a renowned scholar who published the monumental 18-volume “Kumbakonam Edition” of the Sri Mahabharata in the early 1900s. She married into another illustrious family of scholarship, as her husband’s grandfather, Madurai N.R. Krishnaswamy Iyengar, was a respected advocate and authority on Kamba Ramayanam. Guided by devotion to Sanatana Dharma, Dr. Parthasarathy and her late husband founded Sanatana Dharma Brindhavan, a YouTube channel, and the website www.brindhavanajapam.org, to share spiritual anubhavam with a wider audience. A devoted sishya of Sri Ahobila Math, she has received the anugraham (blessings) of the 44th Mukkur Azhagiyasingar, the 45th Srivan Satakopa Sri Narayana Yatheendra Maha Desikan, and the present Srivan Satakopa Sri Ranganatha Yatheendra Maha Desikan. Professionally, Dr. Parthasarathy trained as a dental surgeon in Chennai before moving to the United States, where she earned a doctoral degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.
